This Rwanda and Congo journey brings together two exceptional great-ape environments: the mountain gorillas of Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park and the eastern lowland gorilla habitats of Congo’s Kahuzi-Biega. The itinerary can be tailored to your dates, with Rwanda activities offered independently if Congo access has not resumed.
Booking information: You can request dates and a private quotation now. Congo gorilla and volcano activities are subject to the parks reopening, official access and permits. A request is not a confirmed reservation, and we will confirm the itinerary in writing before accepting payment.
Safari Highlights

- The chance to explore Congo’s Grauer’s gorilla habitat when reopened
- Time around Lake Kivu and privately guided transfers
Day-by-Day 7-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival and welcome
Arrive in Kigali, meet your safari guide and enjoy a relaxed introduction to Rwanda.
Day 2: Explore the region
Transfer to the Volcanoes National Park region. Settle into your lodge and receive a gorilla trekking briefing.
Day 3: Wildlife and forest experience
With an issued Rwanda permit, join a ranger-led mountain gorilla trek in Volcanoes National Park. Return to your lodge to relax.
Day 4: Scenic journey
Enjoy a scenic Lake Kivu stop and review the Congo component. Cross-border arrangements must be confirmed separately and should not be assumed available.
Day 5: Wildlife and nature experience
If access and relevant travel permissions permit, continue to the Bukavu region and enjoy time exploring local scenery. If not, extend your Rwanda itinerary instead.
Day 6: Safari experience
When Kahuzi-Biega reopens and issues trekking permissions, undertake the planned lowland gorilla experience with authorised staff. Otherwise substitute another confirmed Rwanda wildlife or cultural experience by agreement.
Day 7: Journey and departure
Return to the agreed departure point for your onward journey. Timings and route depend on the confirmed travel plan.
Accommodation and Travel Style
This itinerary is planned as a private guided safari, with a selection of comfortable mid-range or luxury accommodation depending on your preferred travel standard. Lodges, road transfers, border procedures and the precise order of activities will be confirmed in the final quotation. We prioritise well-paced travel and practical arrangements rather than promising journeys that cannot be operated.
Prices and Booking
Pricing is provided on request because the final cost depends on travel dates, lodge availability, transport routes, group size and authorised permit fees. Ask us for a detailed quotation for your proposed dates. Trekking permits, accommodation and all activities will be listed clearly in your final confirmation.

What to Know Before You Travel
Gorilla trekking normally requires a minimum age of 15 years. Expect uneven forest paths, variable weather and a need to follow ranger instructions. Your passport, visas, health documentation and permit arrangements must be checked for your exact travel dates. Please do not purchase Congo park permits or non-refundable travel services until authorised access is confirmed.
