Detailed Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Entebbe

Arrive at Entebbe International Airport and meet your Ngweta driver-guide for a private transfer to the agreed accommodation. Depending on arrival time, enjoy a gentle walk by Lake Victoria or rest after the flight.

Your guide will go over the safari route, road conditions and any permits booked for the coming days. Keep passport documents and personal essentials close at hand, and use this arrival night to settle in before an early departure to the national parks.

Planning note: Arrival timing matters: a late flight may require a city overnight before a long road transfer.

Suggested overnight area: Entebbe. Lodge selection will be confirmed in your quotation.

Day 2: Jinja and source of the Nile visit

Travel east toward Jinja for an introduction to the Nile corridor and the town’s riverfront. A short sightseeing outing can highlight the source-of-the-Nile area, boat excursions or scenic viewpoints depending on your interests and the operator’s timetable.

If you choose a water-based activity, ask in advance about safety equipment and suitable weather. This is generally a relaxed cultural and landscape day rather than a national-park game drive. Overnight around Jinja or continue according to the confirmed routing.

Suggested overnight area: Jinja. Lodge selection will be confirmed in your quotation.

Day 3: Transfer toward Murchison Falls

Travel toward Murchison Falls National Park, allowing an unhurried day for the lengthy road journey and worthwhile stops on the way. Landscape changes from cultivated central Uganda to woodland and savanna as you approach the park.

On arrival, your guide will explain the next morning’s game drive and any river activities booked for your stay. A top-of-the-falls viewpoint stop can be added where the final arrival time permits. Dinner and overnight at an accommodation property near the selected park entrance or river sector.

Suggested overnight area: Murchison Falls region. Lodge selection will be confirmed in your quotation.

Day 4: Murchison Falls game drives and boat

Explore Murchison Falls National Park with a wildlife drive and a Nile boat excursion scheduled according to park and boat-operator timetables. The river journey offers views of banks used by hippos, crocodiles and abundant birds, leading toward the powerful falls from the downstream side.

A visit to the top-of-the-falls viewpoints may be possible on the same day or during a separate stop. Keep a flexible schedule around ferry or bridge arrangements and park access rules. Overnight in a lodge positioned for the following day’s activity or onward transfer.

Suggested overnight area: Murchison Falls region. Lodge selection will be confirmed in your quotation.

Day 5: Travel to Kibale region

Leave the previous stop and head toward the Kibale Forest and Fort Portal region, with changing landscapes of tea estates, crater lakes and green farmland. Transfer length depends heavily on the starting point and road conditions, so the day should not be overloaded with additional activities.

After arrival, settle into a forest-edge lodge and confirm the chimpanzee tracking permit and assembly point. If time remains, enjoy the lodge grounds or a short local walk; allow an early night before the following morning’s tracking programme.

Suggested overnight area: Kibale / Fort Portal. Lodge selection will be confirmed in your quotation.

Day 6: Chimpanzee tracking in Kibale

Begin early for the ranger-led chimpanzee tracking programme in Kibale National Park. Follow forest trails while listening for calls and watching for movement in the canopy. Tracking success, route length and observation time depend on the animals and the day’s park regulations. Your guide helps coordinate permits and reporting times before the visit.

The forest also shelters several other primates and a rich variety of birds. Wear closed walking shoes and carry a waterproof layer because paths may be slippery after rain. If time allows, the afternoon can include a gentle excursion near Bigodi rather than another long drive. Overnight in the Kibale or Fort Portal area.

Suggested overnight area: Kibale / Fort Portal. Lodge selection will be confirmed in your quotation.

Day 7: Bigodi cultural walk and rest

Visit the Bigodi community and wetland area for a guided walk that introduces local plants, birds, village life and the relationship between conservation and livelihoods. Your local guide will set a suitable pace and explain which trails are available according to recent rainfall.

This is a useful slower-paced addition to a primate-focused safari. Depending on the agreed programme, you may meet a community enterprise or enjoy lunch in the area before setting out for the next destination. Experiences and fees are arranged in advance rather than assumed to be included.

Suggested overnight area: Kibale / Fort Portal. Lodge selection will be confirmed in your quotation.

Day 8: Queen Elizabeth game viewing

Travel through Queen Elizabeth National Park’s open grasslands, crater landscapes and woodland habitats. Your driver-guide selects game-drive tracks according to park conditions and recent wildlife activity. Look for Uganda kob, buffalo, elephants and varied birdlife; predators are possible but never guaranteed.

This region links the Kibale highlands with the southwest gorilla parks, so it works well in a multi-stop circuit. Choose a lodge location carefully if you plan to visit both Kasenyi and the Kazinga Channel, as travel within the park takes time. Late afternoon is often best spent on a manageable game-drive loop.

Suggested overnight area: Queen Elizabeth area. Lodge selection will be confirmed in your quotation.

Day 9: Kazinga Channel boat cruise

Take a scheduled boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel, the natural waterway linking Lakes Edward and George. From the boat there can be excellent opportunities to observe hippos, waterbirds, buffalo and elephants close to the shoreline. Sightings change with season and animal movements, and the cruise follows the operator’s safety rules.

Combine the cruise with a game drive in Queen Elizabeth National Park if daylight and your driving schedule allow. The Mweya area is particularly suitable for access to the channel, while other accommodation sectors require extra transfer time. Plan an overnight in or around the park when the route continues the following morning.

Suggested overnight area: Queen Elizabeth area. Lodge selection will be confirmed in your quotation.

Day 10: Ishasha to Bwindi journey

Continue through the southern Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park, where open savanna, fig trees and riverine habitats offer a different wildlife experience from the northern sectors. The area is known for occasional tree-climbing lion sightings, but finding them is never assured.

After the game-drive stop, head toward Bwindi’s forested highlands. Actual journey time depends on the road surface, weather and your confirmed gorilla sector. Arrive before dark where possible, check trekking equipment and enjoy dinner at a lodge within practical reach of the next morning’s briefing.

Suggested overnight area: Bwindi or Ishasha area. Lodge selection will be confirmed in your quotation.

Day 11: Bwindi gorilla trekking

The morning begins with a briefing by Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers before you enter Bwindi Impenetrable National Park with authorised trackers. Routes vary with the gorilla family’s location and may involve steep, muddy slopes, thick vegetation and changing weather. Once a habituated family is located, a standard trek generally permits up to one hour of observation under ranger instructions.

Carry sturdy boots, rain protection, water and a small daypack; hiring a local porter can make the walk more comfortable and supports neighbouring communities. The gorilla permit must be confirmed for the correct trekking sector, as Buhoma, Ruhija, Rushaga and Nkuringo are not interchangeable. Return to your sector lodge afterwards for a relaxed evening.

Planning note: The lodge and trekking briefing point must match the permit sector allocated to you.

Suggested overnight area: Bwindi gorilla permit sector. Lodge selection will be confirmed in your quotation.

Day 12: Lake Bunyonyi scenic day

Reach Lake Bunyonyi in Uganda’s cool southwestern highlands, with island views and terraced slopes surrounding the water. This stop provides a welcome contrast to early starts in the forest and a chance to slow the pace after gorilla trekking.

Depending on your interests, a locally guided canoe experience, cultural visit or gentle lakeside walk may be arranged, subject to water conditions and safety equipment. Meals and overnight are planned at a lakeside lodge, with the next day’s onward departure coordinated around the road distance.

Suggested overnight area: Lake Bunyonyi lakeside. Lodge selection will be confirmed in your quotation.

Day 13: Lake Mburo game viewing

Explore the compact landscapes of Lake Mburo National Park, where acacia woodland, grassland and wetlands create good opportunities to see zebra, impala and other antelope. A game drive may be combined with a ranger-led walking activity only where permitted and booked.

Lake Mburo is often an effective final safari stop on the road toward Entebbe, breaking up a longer southwest transfer. Lodges range from comfortable mid-range properties to more secluded upscale options. Wildlife encounters remain subject to natural conditions.

Suggested overnight area: Lake Mburo region. Lodge selection will be confirmed in your quotation.

Day 14: Return to Entebbe

Begin the homeward road journey after breakfast, with comfort stops and views of rural Uganda along the way. Roads from the southwest can make this a long travel day, especially when leaving Bwindi or Lake Bunyonyi.

Allow ample time for traffic around Kampala and Entebbe and for international airport check-in. If the connection is early, consider an additional overnight or a scheduled domestic flight where available. Your quotation will confirm the exact final transfer arrangement.

Planning note: Please confirm your flight time before treating this as a same-day airport connection.

Final arrangements: Departure or onward transfer according to your confirmed travel plans.
